Jacob Tremblay & Paul Walter Hauser Discuss DreamWorks’ Orion and the Dark Stars

Screen Rant recently had the opportunity to sit down with Jacob Tremblay and Paul Walter Hauser, two of the stars of DreamWorks’ upcoming animated film, Orion and the Dark. The film, adapted from a beloved children’s book, is set to offer audiences a whimsical and imaginative journey into the mind of a young boy named Orion as he confronts his fears and embraces the adventure of life itself.

DreamWorks Animation, known for its innovative storytelling and visually stunning animation, is bringing another imaginative tale to the screen with Orion and the Dark. The movie follows Orion, a young boy plagued by a multitude of fears, who embarks on an extraordinary journey with The Dark, an anthropomorphized embodiment of darkness, to overcome his anxieties and discover the wonders of the world around him.

Jacob Tremblay and Paul Walter Hauser, along with an ensemble cast including Angela Bassett, Colin Hanks, and Carla Gugino, lend their voices to bring the characters to life. Tremblay, known for his roles in Room and Wonder, takes on the role of Orion, while Hauser, a Golden Globe winner for his work in I, Tonya, portrays The Dark.

Penned by Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman in his debut in the children’s genre, Orion and the Dark promises to be a uniquely self-aware and imaginative exploration of childhood fears and the joys of growing up. With Kaufman’s signature blend of wit and whimsy, the film is poised to resonate with audiences of all ages.

In their interview with Screen Rant, Tremblay and Hauser shared their insights into the project and the process of bringing their characters to life. Tremblay expressed his fascination with the story’s unique concept and captivating visuals, while Hauser highlighted the excitement of being part of a book adaptation and working with Kaufman’s script.

One aspect of animation that often intrigues audiences is the way characters are visually tailored to their voice actors. While Tremblay and Hauser were unsure if this was the case for their characters, they discussed the interpretive nature of their voiceover sessions and expressed curiosity about how their performances would be translated into animation.

Tremblay also discussed his recent forays into live-action superhero roles, such as Harley Quinn and Invincible, expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity to explore different genres and characters. Hauser echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the excitement of delving into new creative territories and bringing fresh perspectives to familiar narratives.

Orion and the Dark is set to premiere on Netflix, offering audiences a captivating and heartwarming tale that celebrates the power of imagination and the courage to confront our fears. With its stellar cast, imaginative storytelling, and poignant themes, the film promises to be a delightful addition to DreamWorks’ repertoire of animated classics.
