DreamWorks Animation Plans ‘The Bad Guys 2’ Release for Late Summer 2025

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation are preparing to delight audiences once again with the highly anticipated sequel to their 2022 box office hit, “The Bad Guys.” With the original film grossing an impressive $250 million worldwide, the stakes are high for “The Bad Guys 2,” scheduled to hit theaters on August 1, 2025. The release date was previously earmarked for an untitled DreamWorks Animation project, signaling the studio’s commitment to bringing back this beloved crew of animal outlaws for another action-packed adventure.

In “The Bad Guys 2,” viewers will reunite with the dynamic team of reformed criminals who are still adjusting to their newfound roles as Good Guys. However, their peaceful retirement is abruptly interrupted when they’re coerced into one last heist by a cunning all-female gang of criminals. The film promises to deliver the same blend of humor, heart, and high-stakes action that captivated audiences in the original installment, drawing inspiration from Aaron Blabey’s acclaimed New York Times best-selling book series.

Returning to lead the ensemble cast are some of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Oscar winner Sam Rockwell lends his voice once again to the charming and suave Mr. Wolf, while Marc Maron portrays the wily safe-cracker Mr. Snake. Craig Robinson brings his signature wit to the role of the master-of-disguise, Mr. Shark, and Grammy winner Anthony Ramos infuses the short-fused Mr. Piranha with energy and charisma. Rounding out the cast, Golden Globe winner Awkwafina reprises her role as the expert hacker Ms. Tarantula, also known as “Webs.”

Joining the returning cast members are several talented actors who will breathe life into new characters and expand the vibrant world of “The Bad Guys.” Zazie Beetz takes on the role of Diana Foxington, adding depth and complexity to the ensemble. BAFTA winner Richard Ayoade portrays the eccentric Professor Marmalade, while Emmy winner Alex Borstein brings authority and humor to her portrayal of police chief Misty Luggins. Additionally, Lilly Singh shines as Tiffany Fluffit, injecting the film with her trademark charm and comedic flair.

At the helm of “The Bad Guys 2” is director Pierre Perifel, whose creative vision and storytelling expertise guided the success of the original film. Producer Damon Ross returns to oversee the production, ensuring that the sequel maintains the same level of quality and entertainment value. Collaborating with them is co-director JP Sans, who previously served as head of character animation on the first installment, bringing a wealth of experience and talent to the project. The film’s score will once again be composed by the Oscar-nominated Daniel Pemberton, whose music elevated the first film to new heights.

As anticipation builds for “The Bad Guys 2,” fans can expect an exhilarating cinematic experience that surpasses the high standards set by its predecessor. With its stellar cast, compelling storyline, and innovative animation, the sequel promises to be a worthy addition to the DreamWorks Animation legacy, delivering thrills and laughter in equal measure.
