The MCU Probably Won’t Feature Marvel’s Sole All-Powerful Deity

The Marvel multiverse harbors an all-powerful deity known as the One-Above-All, who is unlikely to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) due to its overwhelming cosmic nature. The One-Above-All, portrayed as a force of nature rather than a character, permeates and shapes the entire multiverse. Unlike conventional villains like Thanos or Galactus, the One-Above-All cannot be defeated; it exists as a constant.

As of November 30, 2023, despite the MCU’s expansion into the “Multiverse Saga,” certain esoteric concepts, including the One-Above-All, remain absent. The MCU has generally veered away from more cosmic, earth-shattering storytelling, and there is a growing desire to return to more relatable and grounded narratives.

The One-Above-All was introduced by Mark Waid and Mike Wieringo in Fantastic Four #511, taking the form of legendary comic creator Jack Kirby. Since then, the entity has appeared in various forms, offering guidance and intervention in critical moments.

However, the omnipotence and abstract nature of the One-Above-All make its inclusion in the MCU unlikely. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has portrayed gods, such as Thor and the Asgardians, in a more grounded manner, initially presenting them as advanced aliens rather than traditional deities. The shift towards a more irreverent tone in recent entries, like Thor: Love and Thunder, may not align with the grandiosity of the One-Above-All.

Speculations suggest that the MCU’s Loki, in his role as the God of Stories, could be considered an equivalent to the One-Above-All. Still, this remains unconfirmed.

While fans may hope for adaptations of stories like Immortal Hulk, introducing the One-Below-All, the dark and complex nature of the material, coupled with the MCU’s current creative direction, makes such adaptations uncertain. As the MCU faces challenges, including the declining performance of recent movies like The Marvels, the prospect of introducing the One-Above-All or the One-Below-All appears increasingly unlikely in the current cinematic landscape.
