DCEU Films Arriving on Netflix in December

The majority of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is set to hit the world’s largest streaming platform. As November kicks off and viewers search for their favorite movies and TV shows across various streaming services, Netflix has taken an early lead by announcing via social media that several DCEU films will be available on December 1. Notable entries include Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, marking their debut on the platform.

Among the titles scheduled for release on Netflix next month are Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Suicide Squad. While these films are expected to join Netflix’s library, it’s worth noting that they may also be available on other streaming services, such as Prime Video, though they will likely remain on Netflix as well.

These movies encompass a significant portion of the DCEU’s catalog during the period when Zack Snyder was a credited producer, although some key installments are notably absent. Notable omissions include Aquaman, The Flash, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and both Shazam! movies. Blue Beetle, which features a character set to return in the new DC Universe overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, is also missing from the lineup, likely due to its recent Blu-ray release.

The announcement has stirred mixed reactions, particularly among Zack Snyder’s devoted fanbase, who express frustration over the widespread availability of the theatrical cut of Justice League, a version widely criticized by fans.

The launch of DC Films with Man of Steel failed to match the success of Marvel Studios, leading Warner Bros. to intervene in subsequent productions. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s underperformance at the box office prompted studio interference, resulting in tumultuous productions and disappointing outcomes. After Zack Snyder’s departure from Justice League, Warner Bros. eventually announced a reboot of the DC Universe, set for release in 2025, signaling the end of an era for this iteration of the franchise.
