Sunrise, a Japanese production company, is set to revive the iconic anime franchise “Inuyasha” with a new series titled “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon”. Viz Media has been given the rights to handle digital streaming, electronic sell-through, and home video distribution in North and Latin America. However, with most of the Japanese film industry shut down due to the anti-coronavirus lockdown and social distancing rules, no details of the production schedule or release date have been disclosed.

The original “Inuyasha” franchise began as a critically acclaimed manga series, with the English version regularly featuring on The New York Times Bestsellers list throughout the 2000s. The anime adaptation aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block for over 11 years, spanning almost 200 episodes. The franchise has also produced four successful feature film adaptations. However, the franchise came to a close in 2010.

Yashahime Season 2 Episode 14: Moroha Finally Meets Kagome and Inuyasha

The new series, “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon,” focuses on half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna, who get separated from each other during a forest fire. Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised. Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras reopens, allowing the two women to be reunited. However, the younger one who had been left in the Feudal Era has now become a demon slayer and has lost all memory of her older sister. They are joined by the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome and travel between the two eras on an adventure to regain their missing past.

The original creator of the “Inuyasha” franchise, Rumiko Takahashi, returns to handle character design. The series will be directed by Teruo Sato, with Katsuyuki Sumisawa responsible for the screenplay. Yoshihito Hishinuma is responsible for animation character design, while the music will be composed by Kaoru Wada. Sunrise, which has worked on many successful anime series such as “Mobile Suit Gundam,” “Gintama,” “Gintama: The Movie,” and “Tiger and Bunny,” is in charge of animation production.
