The popular anime series “Soul Eater” is scheduled to leave Netflix in the United States and Canada on December 1st, 2021. The show, based on the dark fantasy manga by Square Enix, originally aired from 2008 to 2009 with a total of 51 episodes. In North America, the distribution rights are held by Funimation, and the series was previously aired on Adult Swim and Funimation Channel.
For those unfamiliar with the series, “Soul Eater” follows Maka and other students at the Death Weapon Meister Academy as they embark on a mission to defeat 99 evil humans and one witch, absorbing their spirits upon their demise.
All 51 episodes of “Soul Eater” will be removed from Netflix in the United States and Canada on December 1st, 2021, making November 30th, 2021 the last day to watch the series on the platform.
This isn’t the first time “Soul Eater” has left Netflix. It was originally added to the streaming service in September 2014 but was removed in November 2016. It made a comeback on Netflix on December 1st, 2017, and has been available for the past four years.
After its departure from Netflix, “Soul Eater” will still be available for streaming on Funimation’s platform, as Funimation holds the license for the series. Hulu also currently holds the license, but the availability on Hulu may be for a limited time, as they are not the actual owners.
“Soul Eater” is produced by the renowned studio Bones, known for other popular anime such as “My Hero Academia” and “Mob Psycho 100.” The studio is also involved in the upcoming Netflix anime series “Super Crooks” based on Mark Millar’s Millarworld comics, set to release globally on November 25th.
