Review of Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdown Episode 2

In the second episode of Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdown, titled “Gotta Go,” the show continued its season 2 storyline with the first appearance of the Black Dragon’s 10th Generation. The episode begins at the bowling alley, where Takemichi, the main character, has gone back in time and is enjoying a date with Hina. However, things take a surprising turn when he encounters Hakkai Shiba, one of the leaders of the Black Dragon gang in the present day.

The two engage in a friendly competition, playing a variety of games, but Hakkai wins each time. Takemichi notices that Hakkai is different from the version he meets twelve years later, as he seems to be a cool and fun kid who deeply admires Takashi Mitsuya, the captain of the Tokyo Manji 2nd Division. He also wants to stay out of trouble and sees being a captain as too restrictive and complicated. Takemichi concludes that something must have happened to him at some point, just as it did with Mikey, another leader of the gang.

As they walk to Hakkai’s house, they encounter Hakkai’s sister Yuzuha, who has been with them the whole time but has remained quiet until now. Upon arriving at Hakkai’s house, they find that it is completely surrounded by the Black Dragon gang. A large group of members is waiting in front of the house, all wearing the white uniform with a red armband saying “Murder Squad” and riding their motorcycles. They immediately recognize Hakkai and Yuzuha, and explain that their older brother, Taiju Shiba, is the leader of the Black Dragon.

As is typical of the Black Dragon’s 10th Generation nature at this point, the gang becomes aggressive towards Hakkai and Yuzuha. When they realize that Takemichi, the captain of the Tokyo Manji 1st Division, is standing in their territory and in the company of their leader’s siblings, things escalate quickly. One of the Black Dragon high commands, Hajime Kokonoi, threatens to kill Takemichi and Hina for stepping into their territory. Hakkai and Yuzuha try to intervene and stop them, but another Black Dragon leader, Seishu Inui, joins the discussion and things start to get heated.

Takemichi is terrified by the situation and worried about what might happen to Hina. Hakkai and Yuzuha urge Takemichi and Hina to run away while they contain the situation, but before they can do so, Taiju arrives on the scene. Taiju, without even knowing who Takemichi is, sends him flying before proceeding to beat him up right in front of Hina. The episode ends in a cliffhanger, with Taiju ordering his brother Hakkai to beat Takemichi to death.

Overall, “Gotta Go” was a slower episode that focused on character introductions and setting the stage for what will come next. Despite this, it had some good moments and helped viewers get closer to characters who had previously made little impression. The episode also maintained high expectations for the next episode, as fans wait to find out how the characters will confront this difficult situation and how Hakkai’s relationship with his older brother will affect the rest of the season.
