Following a less-than-satisfactory turn of events for Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Marvel Studios seems poised for redemption in the upcoming series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (2024).
Scarlet Witch, portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen, gained significant popularity through her compelling portrayal in WandaVision (2021), where her struggles, especially in coping with the loss of Vision (Paul Bettany), captivated audiences. However, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness seemingly diminished the character’s growth and complexity, reducing her agency and turning her into a formidable but less nuanced antagonist.
Marvel Studios appears to be addressing this in the WandaVision spinoff series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. In this upcoming show, focusing on WandaVision standout Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), the narrative will explore her quest to regain powers with the help of unexpected allies, including Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), Billy Kaplan (Joe Locke), Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), and more.
A recent leak from reliable source CanWeGetSomeToast suggests a significant revelation about Scarlet Witch. Despite being presumed dead, a character’s inquiry about Scarlet Witch’s status results in Agatha Harkness refusing to provide a direct answer, responding, ‘If you want straight answers, ask a straight witch.’ This not only solidifies Agatha Harkness as an LGBTQIA+ icon but also leaves the door open for Scarlet Witch’s potential return to the MCU. The revelation hints at the character’s survival, offering hope for Elizabeth Olsen’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a prospect eagerly awaited given the current landscape of the MCU.
