Red Sox to Host Movie Night Featuring Shrek and the Real Green Monster

“Experience Shrek at Fenway Park’s Movie Night for just $10 this month.

Fenway Park, in collaboration with Alamo Drafthouse, is offering an unexpected treat – the screening of the beloved 2001 animated film Shrek on the large screen at the home of the Boston Red Sox. The reason behind this unique choice? Fenway Park’s famous left field wall, known as the Green Monster, aligns with Shrek’s identity as a green monster. Let’s not delve too deep into the connection.

This event is part of Fenway Park’s annual Movie Night series. Shrek, featuring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow, will be showcased on August 22.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 12 and under, with Red Sox season ticket holders granted free entry. To ensure clear visibility on Fenway’s 40×100-foot videoboard, tickets are restricted to the lower bowl and the first base line.

Gates open at 6:45 PM, and the movie screening commences at 7:30 PM. Attendees not only get to enjoy Shrek’s spectacle but can also take photos with the Red Sox World Series trophies and purchase concessions.

Regarding the future of the Shrek series, Chris Meledandri, a key figure in the movies, expressed optimism about the return of Mike Meyers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Fiona) for Shrek 5. Meledandri anticipates the cast’s enthusiastic involvement, though he emphasized that discussions are preliminary and no agreements are in place yet.

The original Shrek debuted in 2001, followed by sequels Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek The Third (2007), and Shrek: Forever After (2010). Holiday specials, including Shrek the Halls and Scared Shrekless, were also released in 2007 and 2010 respectively. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, launched in 2022, garnered critical acclaim and commercial success as an extension of the Shrek universe.

Despite initial plans for a 2019 release, Shrek 5’s arrival was postponed.
