New Cowboy Bebop sequel is opposite, except for one thing

Cowboy Bebop is a classic anime that is highly recommended and known for its moody, jazzy Film Noir style space adventures. However, the same creator of Cowboy Bebop, Shinichiro Watanabe, also created another anime that takes the same premise but in a completely different direction. This anime is called Space Dandy.

In Space Dandy, the story follows a perpetually broke bounty hunter named Dandy, who travels with his two friends in a spaceship hoping to find the next big score to keep themselves afloat. The premise is similar to Cowboy Bebop, but the tone and direction are completely different. Instead of hunting for criminals, Dandy looks for bizarre alien creatures that have never been documented before. His crewmates consist of a talking vacuum robot named QT and an alien cat named Meow. They also frequent a Hooters-inspired restaurant called “Boobies.” Interestingly, Watanabe confirmed that Space Dandy is a stealth sequel to Bebop, as evidenced by the presence of Bebop’s alien fridge in Dandy.

Despite the silliness of the show, Space Dandy’s tone can vary greatly. Some episodes have a serious tone and philosophical insights, while others are straight comedies. Different episodes also frequently make use of distinct art styles. The lack of continuity in the show may be confusing to some viewers, but the secret of the show’s continuity is not revealed until its final episodes.

Space Dandy and Cowboy Bebop share similarities, but they also have many differences. While Cowboy Bebop focuses on serious space adventures and character development, Space Dandy is more concerned with having fun and being absurd. Nevertheless, both shows are worth watching and can be enjoyed by fans of Watanabe’s work. Space Dandy is a unique creation, and those who appreciate the direction he takes with it will find it entertaining on many different levels.
