New ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ movie to feature new voice cast

During a recent appearance at MomoCon, Jessie Flower, known for her role as Toph, shared some interesting insights about the upcoming ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ movie set to release in 2025. While fans eagerly await the return of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Toph, it seems that the original voices of Team Avatar may not be reprising their roles for the film.

Flower revealed that she was under the impression that most, if not all, of the original cast members would not be returning for the new movie. Despite her enthusiasm to be part of the franchise once again, the film’s storyline, which follows a new era for Team Avatar, doesn’t allow for the original cast’s involvement. Flower expressed her understanding of the casting decision, stating, “If you’re an actor, you’re always interested in being called back for a project,” and she anticipated the possibility of backlash from fans who may long for the return of the original voices. She acknowledged that the film would likely undergo a complete cast overhaul, adding, “It’s not like people are going to clamor and be like, ‘Bring back the originals!'”

The original voice cast of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ was a powerhouse ensemble that included Zach Tyler Eisen, Mae Whitman, Jack De Sena, Dante Basco, Dee Bradley Baker, Mako, and Grey DeLisle, among others. Their contributions to the series played a significant role in its success and garnered a dedicated fan base.

While the new ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ movie will feature the return of the Gaang, it will focus on their early adult years as they strive to rebuild the world after the devastating war with the Fire Nation. This period, which takes place between the events of ‘The Last Airbender’ and its sequel series ‘The Legend of Korra,’ remains relatively unexplored in depth on screen. During this time, Aang played a pivotal role in reestablishing the Air Nomads and creating Republic City, shaping the foundations of the more advanced world seen in ‘The Legend of Korra.’

Flower also highlighted the unwavering commitment of creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino to their vision for the series. They have consistently stayed true to their creative direction, even when it diverged from fan expectations. Flower referenced their decision to conclude the series in three seasons, despite fan demands for a fourth, as an example of their dedication to their vision. While this steadfastness means that the original cast may not return, Flower expressed her support as a fan, eagerly anticipating what the creators have in store for the next chapter. She stated, “They have a vision, and they execute it the way they want to. I’m sad because I would love to come back and do stuff, but you know I’ll be cheering from the audience with everyone else!”

The new ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ movie, directed by Lauren Montgomery and produced by Bryan Konietzko, Michael DiMartino, and Eric Coleman, is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025. Excitement builds as fans eagerly await the expansion of the franchise, with rumors circulating about two more animated films focusing on Zuko and Avatar Kyoshi. Additionally, Netflix is developing a live-action series, although without the involvement of Konietzko and DiMartino due to creative differences with the streaming platform.

As the release date of the new ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ movie approaches, fans can delve into the rich world of the series by streaming the original animated show on platforms such as Netflix, which offers both English dubbed and subbed language options. With the upcoming movie and animated projects on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to immerse oneself in the captivating universe of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and join the anticipation for the next chapter in the franchise.
