“The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh” is an eagerly anticipated two-part movie spin-off that will soon be available on Netflix. Despite the conclusion of “The Seven Deadly Sins” anime series, the franchise continues to thrive, and fans can look forward to this exciting new installment. With five seasons of the anime and two successful spin-off movies, “Prisoners of the Sky” and “Cursed by Light,” there’s already plenty of content for fans to enjoy. However, the return of Nakaba Suzuki as the writer for “Grudge of Edinburgh” has generated significant excitement among fans.
Reports confirm that “The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh” will be a two-part movie, with the first part set to debut on Netflix in December 2022. Noriyuki Abe, the director of “Prisoners of the Sky,” will return as the “Supervising Director” for the movie, while Bob Shirahata serves as the director. Rintarou Ikeda, who previously worked on the franchise, will be responsible for writing the script.
The release date for part 1 of “Grudge of Edinburgh” was initially revealed through a teaser at Netflix’s “anime day” event in Japan. While it was widely speculated that the movie would arrive on December 20th, 2022, official confirmation from Netflix was still awaited. Fortunately, with the recent release of the official trailer on Netflix’s YouTube channels, the December 20th release date has been officially confirmed.
As for the plot, “The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh” will follow the story of Tristan, the son of the series’ protagonists, Meliodas and Elizabeth. Tristan possesses the power of the Goddess Clan, enabling him to heal people’s wounds. However, his struggle to control his Demon Clan power often leads to unintentional harm to others. Determined to protect his family, Tristan embarks on a journey to Edinburgh Castle, where he encounters new allies along the way.
While three cast members have been confirmed so far, it is expected that the original cast from the anime series will reprise their roles. Mikako Komatsu, who voices Tristan, will be returning as the young prince of Liones. Ayumu Murase will lend his voice to portray the teenage Tristan, and Yûki Kaji has been confirmed to voice Meliodas, known for his notable roles in “Attack on Titan,” “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” and “Accel World.”
It’s worth noting that “The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh” will feature a distinct animation style different from the anime series. The movie will be animated by Alfred Imageworks and Marvy Jack studios, taking over from Studio Deen. Fans of the mobile game “Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross” may already be familiar with the visual work of Alfred Imageworks.
While this upcoming movie has generated much anticipation, it’s important to remember that the future of the franchise lies in the spin-off sequel story, “The Four Knights of the Apocalypse.” It remains to be seen if the movie will provide any hints or connections to the story of Percival, the protagonist of “The Four Knights of the Apocalypse.” Percival is destined to become the Knight of Death and is part of a group of Holy Knights prophesied by King Arthur Pendragon to bring destruction to the world. The movie may offer glimpses into Tristan’s future and his involvement in this sequel story.
