Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Showrunner Criticizes MCU Reboot as a ‘Disney Scam’ and Receives Strong Backing

“Daredevil: Born Again,” a new series slated for Disney+, was announced in May 2022. Despite the popularity of the Netflix show, it wouldn’t continue, as the reboot retained some actors, including Charlie Cox as Daredevil.

The cancellation of the beloved Netflix series disappointed both the showrunners and the crew, who believed there was room for a potential fourth season. While Marvel and Disney never officially labeled it a “reboot,” various aspects of the show hinted at it.

It’s highly unlikely that Disney would continue the Netflix series as-is; they’d want to put their own stamp on it. Although Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprised their roles, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page weren’t returning. These factors suggested a new storyline for the Disney show. Steven McKnight, the showrunner for Netflix’s Daredevil Season 1, expressed his frustration with this “reboot.” Responding to a post on X, where a crew member claimed that Disney+ was reverting to the original season one IATSE contract terms, McKnight criticized Disney’s actions:

“It’s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to the first season. Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed!”

The response to McKnight’s statement was mixed among fans. Some were excited to see Cox as a full-time MCU character, while others supported McKnight and the Netflix show. The Netflix series had its own unique style and limitations due to its resources, whereas the MCU promises to bring in more Marvel characters, sometimes in prominent cameo roles. Fans are eagerly anticipating the new Daredevil series, but it remains to be seen how they will receive it.

As of now, the production of “Daredevil: Born Again” is shrouded in secrecy, with no release information available. Nonetheless, many fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the hero to their screens.
