“Hunter x Hunter’s Promising Villain Meets Disappointing Demise”
Hunter x Hunter, known for its iconic status in anime, presents a standout villain named Meruem. However, despite his compelling qualities, his death in the series turns out to be a major letdown.
Villains play a crucial role in any story, and their demise should be just as thoughtfully executed as that of the protagonist. Meruem, the antagonist in the Chimera Ant Arc, had the potential to be a memorable villain. His character development and unique traits made him intriguing.
Meruem, a newborn king of the Chimera Ants, exhibited tremendous power and intellect but lacked empathy and regard for others. However, his encounters with a blind girl named Komugi gradually transformed him into a wise and just leader, valuing the lives of others. This evolution added depth to his character.
Sadly, Meruem’s demise was underwhelming. During a battle with Isaac Netero, a powerful Hunter, it becomes clear that Meruem surpasses Netero in strength. In a desperate move, Netero sacrifices himself by detonating a bomb implanted in his heart. While Meruem survives the blast with the help of his loyal generals, they are unknowingly infected with a lethal poison. As the poison spreads through their bodies, it ultimately leads to Meruem’s downfall.
This anticlimactic ending diminishes the potential impact of one of the series’ most intriguing villains. It remains a disappointing aspect of Hunter x Hunter, tarnishing an otherwise exceptional anime.
