Ahead of Sydney Sweeney’s Marvel debut, fans get a detailed preview of her Spider-Woman costume in the upcoming movie “Madame Web.” Initially cast in Sony Pictures’ female-led solo project, “Madame Web,” Sweeney eventually confirmed her role as Julia Carpenter in the new Spider-Man film, marking her entry into the superhero genre.
The latest glimpse comes from a Chinese poster for “Madame Web,” showcasing Sydney Sweeney’s Spider-Woman alongside other characters like Cassandra Webb portrayed by Dakota Johnson, and Spider-Women played by Celeste O’Connor and Isabela Merced. Sweeney’s black and grey suit, accompanied by a black mask, is prominently featured, offering the best look yet before the film’s release, making it the first of four Marvel movies in 2024.
In terms of costume differences from Marvel Comics, Sweeney’s Madame Web outfit departs from the traditional design by omitting the large white eyes on the mask. While some variations might be saved for the movie’s release in February, other distinctions include darker grey sleeves compared to the white seen in the comics and subtle changes in the Spider-logo on her upper half.
With Julia Carpenter succeeding Cassandra Webb as a superhero in the comics, Sweeney’s portrayal is expected to play a significant role in “Madame Web.” The future trajectory of the franchise remains uncertain, but Sydney Sweeney is likely to be a pivotal figure in Sony’s plans for the Spider-Man Universe. “Madame Web” is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 14.
