Marvel Studios Previewed New Episodes of ‘What If…?’ Season 2 and Announced Upcoming Animated Series.
Filmmakers, members of the press, and special guests convened on The Walt Disney Studios lot for an exclusive screening of two brand-new episodes from the upcoming second season of Marvel Studios’ What If…?, set to debut on Disney+ on December 22, with new episodes premiering every night for nine consecutive days.
Executive producer Brad Winderbaum introduced the special screening, which was followed by a Q&A session with key creators, including director/EP Bryan Andrews, writer/EP AC Bradley, and writer/producer Matthew Chauncey.
The screened episodes included:
- Episode 1: “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?” – This episode explores a reality where Ronan takes down Thanos before the events of “Infinity War,” leading Nebula to join the Nova Corps to prove herself and escape her father’s influence.
- Episode 3: “What If Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?” – In this alternate scenario, Justin Hammer attacks Avengers Tower during their annual holiday party, and Happy Hogan must step up to thwart him, potentially transforming himself in the process.
Additionally, Winderbaum surprised attendees with a sizzle reel showcasing Marvel Animation’s upcoming series:
- Eyes of Wakanda – Unveiled for the first time, the series follows Wakandan warriors throughout history on a mission to retrieve dangerous vibranium artifacts.
- X-Men ’97 – A previously announced animated series, revisiting the beloved X-Men animated show from the 1990s.
- Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (formerly Spider-Man: Freshman Year) – Another anticipated series exploring Spider-Man’s early years.
As Season 2 of What If…? unfolds, The Watcher guides viewers through the vast multiverse, presenting new and familiar MCU faces, and reimagining iconic moments with a star-studded voice cast reprising their iconic roles. The series, executive produced by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Bryan Andrews, and AC Bradley, features characters like Nebula, Hela, and Happy Hogan and is directed by Bryan Andrews (Episodes 2-9) and Stephan Franck (Episode 1), with writing contributions from AC Bradley (Episodes 3, 4, 5, 8), Matthew Chauncey (Episodes 1-3, 7, 9), and Ryan Little (Episodes 6, 8).
