Fairy Tail: Unlocking all characters

Fairy Tail unlock Characters

Sometimes, figuring out how and when you can play as certain characters in Fairy Tail can be a bit challenging. If you’re eager to expand your team and add new members, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. Here’s a detailed guide on how to unlock all characters in Fairy Tail.

Currently, there are 16 playable characters in Fairy Tail, with two characters available right after the Prologue chapter. Natsu and Lucy are part of your initial team, but the remaining 14 characters can be obtained at various points throughout the story.

Here’s a breakdown of how to unlock each character:

  1. Wendy:
    • Unlocking Wendy is relatively straightforward as she is part of the main group of Fairy Tail guild members.
    • Simply complete the first mandatory Request in Chapter 1 to unlock Wendy. This Request is integral to the story and cannot be missed.
  2. Gray:
    • Similar to Wendy, Gray can be unlocked by completing a mandatory Request in Chapter 1 called “Snuggle Don’t Struggle.”
  3. Erza:
    • Erza is the last of the main group of characters to join your team and is easily acquired through a simple, unmissable mission in Chapter 1.
    • Complete the “Get the Mail, Man” Request to recruit Erza.
  4. Juvia:
    • Juvia is the first optional character you can unlock in Fairy Tail. In Chapter 2, speak to Juvia inside the guild, and then complete the “A Request Built For Two” mission.
    • This mission is part of Juvia’s Character Story, indicated by a star symbol above her head when it becomes available.
  5. Gajeel:
    • Gajeel, the iron Dragon Slayer, becomes available in Chapter 3, after the Grand Magic Games have commenced.
    • To unlock Gajeel, you must complete his first Character Story mission called “The Iron Dragon’s Test of Strength.” It involves a one-on-one fight against Gajeel, so prepare yourself.
  6. Sting:
    • Starting from Chapter 7, you can add Sting to your team. Look for him in the new (old) Fairy Tail guild and initiate a conversation.
    • Complete all three of Sting’s Character Story Requests to unlock him. After completing the “White vs. Red” mission, he will officially join your team.
  7. Rogue:
    • Rogue can be obtained in the same way as Sting. In Chapter 7, speak to him in the guild and complete all three of his Character Story Requests.
    • After finishing the “Battle of the Dragon Slayers: Continued” mission, Rogue will be at your disposal.
  8. Sherria:
    • In Chapter 7, speak to Sherria inside the guild to begin her Character Story questline.
    • To add her to your team, complete the “Sherria is on the Job” quest, which is her third and final personal Request.
  9. Kagura:
    • Kagura becomes available for interaction in Chapter 7. Only two Character Story Requests need to be completed to unlock her.
    • After finishing the “A Mermaid on Stage” mission, Kagura will be unlocked as a playable character.
  10. Ichiya:
    • Ichiya, another character, can be unlocked in Chapter 7. Speak to him in the guild, and then complete all three of his Character Story quests.
    • His final quest is titled “The Perfect Team.”
  11. Jellal:
    • Surprisingly, Jellal is not part of the Chapter 7 group. You’ll need to talk to him inside the guild during the Final Chapter to begin his Character Story quests.
    • Complete his third personal mission, “Evil Lurking,” to unlock Jellal as a playable character.
  12. Mirajane:
    • Although you encounter Mirajane multiple times throughout the game, she officially joins your team later on.
    • Speak to her in the Epilogue, then complete her three Character Story quests to finally add her.
    • Her last Request is titled “Coming Out of Retirement.”
  13. Laxus:
    • Laxus can be added to your team in the Epilogue, after Mirajane has joined.
    • Complete all three of Laxus’ Character Stories, culminating in the “Harvest Festival Memories,” to unlock him.
  14. Gildarts:
    • You can find Gildarts on the second floor of the final Fairy Tail guild towards the end of the game.
    • Unlocking him requires defeating him in his Character Story, where he poses a level 90 challenge. Some grinding might be necessary before taking him on.
    • Once you defeat him, Gildarts will become a playable character.
