The original DuckTales was a cornerstone of the Disney Afternoon lineup, featuring unforgettable theme songs that still resonate with fans today. The revival of this beloved cartoon series has already welcomed fellow Disney Afternoon character Darkwing Duck, and now, another fan favorite is set to make a return on July 28.
Don Karnage, the sky pirate from TaleSpin (a series that essentially blended The Jungle Book with aviation and anti-corporate themes), is making a reappearance. “When you have a group of sky pirates show up, you might expect planes and guns,” explains executive producer Matt Youngberg. “Our approach with DuckTales has always been to take familiar conventions and add another layer to them.” In this reboot, the airborne pirate will confront the Duck family in a choreographed musical number.
Jaime Camil, known for his role on Jane the Virgin and with a background in Broadway, lends his voice to the character of Don Karnage. Camil describes Don Karnage as incredibly attractive and supremely self-confident. “He adores singing, dancing, and being the center of attention,” Camil adds.
This attention-seeking trait sets up an unexpected dynamic with Dewey (voiced by Ben Schwartz), the middle child who constantly strives to stand out in the most dramatic way possible. The result is a music-heavy showdown, complete with pirate songs that may finally displace the iconic Gummi Bears theme music from your mind.
