Disneyland Will Not Revive Robot Dragon Post-Fire, but Will Expand Alcohol Options

The iconic Maleficent dragon, famously referred to as ‘Murphy,’ which met a fiery demise, is sadly not slated for a return to Disneyland’s popular nighttime spectacle. However, there are exciting developments on the horizon, including an expanded array of alcoholic beverage options.

Fantasmic, the beloved nighttime extravaganza featuring Murphy, won’t be gracing Disneyland until 2024, and when it does return, it will do so without the iconic robot dragon. Instead, the revamped show will feature a reimagined scene from Sleeping Beauty, wherein Mickey will engage in a new climactic battle with Maleficent in her dragon form, complete with cutting-edge special effects.

As we bid adieu to Murphy, Disneyland is making waves with its alcohol policies. Traditionally, the theme park had strict alcohol restrictions, with the exception of the exclusive Club 33. However, this policy has shifted significantly with the introduction of Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and the expansion of alcohol offerings last year at the Blue Bayou, the restaurant nestled within the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

In addition to these changes, starting on September 12, Carnation Cafe on Main Street will join the ranks of establishments offering alcoholic beverages, marking a significant departure from Disneyland’s historic dry status. But that’s not all; two more restaurants, River Belle Terrace and Cafe Orleans, both conveniently located near the Fantasmic’s Rivers of America, will also introduce alcoholic drinks as exciting additions to their menus.

These shifts in policy come as a surprise to many Disney enthusiasts, given Walt Disney’s strict stance on alcohol in his parks for decades. While we may be saying goodbye to Murphy, there’s a lot to look forward to, especially for those who enjoy adult beverages in the enchanting atmosphere of Disneyland. Cheers to the changes!
