Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom gets release dates for 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD, with bonus features

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the latest installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is gearing up for its home video release, promising fans an opportunity to own the final chapter of the cinematic saga. Scheduled for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD release on March 12, this home edition comes packed with an array of bonus features, offering enthusiasts a deeper dive into the film’s intricacies.

The digital debut of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set for January 23, just over a month after its theatrical release. With a runtime in theaters, the film has grossed approximately $380 million worldwide, demonstrating solid performance, albeit falling short of its predecessor’s staggering success. The original Aquaman film, released in 2018, soared past the $1.1 billion mark globally, securing its place as the highest-grossing DC film to date.

The sequel’s success has been influenced by its overseas appeal, surpassing other DCEU releases in 2023, including Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle. Despite facing mixed reviews from critics (earning a 34% critical rating), the film garnered favor among 81% of the audience. However, as the DCEU undergoes significant changes and restructuring, the likelihood of Aquaman 3 remains uncertain, contingent on sustained fan demand and creative decisions.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom continues the story of Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa, and introduces new elements to the underwater realm. The home video edition aims to provide an immersive experience for viewers, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses into the making of the film, exploring the dynamic between Arthur and Orm, and shedding light on key locations and sequences.

The home release includes exclusive bonus features such as ‘Finding the Lost Kingdom,’ which delves into the challenges faced by the cast and crew in creating an epic sequel, surpassing the scale of the original. ‘Aquaman: Worlds Above and Below’ explores the filmmakers’ endeavor to send the characters to new and diverse worlds above and below the sea. Another feature, ‘It’s a Manta World,’ focuses on the supervillain Black Manta, showcasing the transformation of the character and the inspiration behind his formidable presence.

The home video edition also takes viewers into the mysterious ‘Necrus, The Lost Black City,’ providing insights into the creation of the legendary lost Atlantean city and its inhabitants. ‘Escape from the Deserter World’ offers a detailed look at the barren desert landscape and the Deserter Prison, featuring the daring Orm “breakout” sequence. Additionally, fans can explore ‘Brawling at Kingfish’s Lair,’ a conceptual journey into the ocean’s last frontier, and learn about the return of the beloved character TOPO in ‘Oh TOPO!’

As fans await the culmination of the DCEU with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s home release, the film’s performance at the box office and its reception among audiences signal the end of an era, leaving the future of the Aquaman franchise uncertain in the evolving landscape of DC superhero films.
