A founding member of the Titans, instrumental in establishing the original team, has taken a decisive turn towards villainy. The question looming now is whether redemption awaits him.
The defector in question is Tempest, formerly known as Aqualad, whose descent into villainy is evident in Titans #6 by Tom Taylor and Travis Moore. Set against the backdrop of the Beast World event, where Garro (the newly reborn Beast Boy) releases spores turning everyone in the DC Universe into animals, Tempest, now aligned with Eternity, receives a chilling directive to eliminate his former comrades.
In a dramatic turn of events, Tempest, exploiting his past ties with the Titans, opens the fortified doors of Titans Tower, allowing Eternity and a malevolent horde entry. As the Titans grapple with the onslaught, Nightwing and Batgirl find themselves in a perilous situation with Tempest, who attempts to drown Nightwing amidst the chaos.
Tempest’s journey into darkness commenced in the early issues of Titans, where Nightwing sought to revive the team following the Justice League’s dissolution. Initially approached by Nightwing, Tempest declined, hinting at an alternative savior for the planet. This mysterious figure is later revealed to be Brother Eternity, a new incarnation of Brother Blood with alien origins. By Titans #4, Tempest is actively promoting Eternity’s sinister agenda, engaging in malevolent actions that jeopardize the Titans.
While Tempest has immersed himself in the nefarious activities orchestrated by Brother Eternity, there remains a lingering possibility of redemption. Despite leading an invasion of Titans Tower and attempting to carry out a mission to eliminate the team, Tempest’s deeds, thus far, have not reached irredeemable levels. His character arc is still unfolding, and the prospect that he may be under the influence of Brother Eternity adds a layer of complexity to his descent into villainy. Tempest appears more misguided than inherently evil, and the door is open for the Titans to welcome him back into the fold once he breaks free from Eternity’s influence.
As Titans #6 unfolds the gripping narrative, written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Travis Moore, the fate of Tempest hangs in the balance. The issue, now available from DC Comics, keeps readers on the edge as the Titans grapple with the betrayal of one of their own.
